FMS Wins National Support Music Merit Award

The SupportMusic Merit Award recognizes individual schools that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.
“The Arts are an important part of what we do at FISD to educate the whole child. It’s an opportunity for students explore their passion, learn critical thinking skills and expand their creativity. I am so proud of the FMS band director, John Curtin and his students. FMS continues to raise the bar of student learning and performance,” said Dr. Sherri Bays, FISD Superintendent.
This award recognizes that Floresville Middle School is leading the way with learning opportunities as outlined in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). The legislation guides policy implementation in the states and replaces the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) which was often criticized for an overemphasis on testing-while leaving behind subjects such as music. ESSA recommends music and the arts as important elements of a well-rounded education for all children.
