We are starting our 40 Book Challenge! The purpose of this challenge is to get your sixth grader reading books they might not normally choose and to increase their love of reading in different genres. This can be accomplished by reading at school and at home. Some books can possibly be read in a day or two and some books will obviously take longer to finish. The best way to become a better reader and to build vocabulary is to read!
Each book must be read by your sixth grader. Books they read in class and at home count in their 40 book total. If a book is longer than 200 pages it counts as two books. Students will keep a record of books read on their challenge sheet and complete book talks with their teacher during the school day. Forty books may seem like a lot to read, but remember, it is a Challenge, and we will celebrate all students at the end of the year.
Please help me keep your child on target by discussing what they have been reading at home. If you have any questions or comments please email me at email@example.com .
